Whatever you Dream or Imagine, there is always your story to tell!!!
It Starts With An Idea!!! “Tsula’s Story”
Dream it or Visualize it.
1: It all begins with an idea or a thought. Your mind has created image, you need to let it out. You make a design.
Start to Paint it.
2: You start to paint your design. Starting with the soul or life of the image, the eyes. If you get the eyes, right the rest seems to follow.
Build on it.
3: You start to paint on the fabric, it starts to come more alive with each stroke.
Tsula was designed for the 2017 Hoffman Challenge.
Painting is Done
4: It’s really working! It needs a name! “Tsula” (choo-la) is red fox in Cherokee. Now to apply some appliqué.
Stitching the Applique’.
5: It is time to stitch around all of the appliqué’ that you added. It may be tedious but it will be worth it in the end.
Quilting adds more dimension
6: Oh! the quilting is really working. This step can really add more to the fur and give it texture and even some personality.
How to quilt the background?
7: “Tsula” the Fox is quilted! NOW! How to quilt the background?? Sometimes testing backgrounds is the best solution. Printing out 6 foxes and drawing in 6 different backgrounds. Yikes!
Background is Finished.
8: Tsula is completed. Quilted trees and grass! An artist facing was added to the edges and hand stitched to the back, along with a hanging sleeve.
Winning is a Bonus!
9: The work was worth it! 2nd place in the mixed division for the 2017 Hoffman Challenge. Tsula ended traveling around the USA for about 18 months. He is home now.
